Oh, For the Love of Art
February 18, 2020
LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO- Memorial Medical Center is launching the Memorial Art Initiative this February during the Love of Art Month. Memorial Medical Center Chief Executive Officer John Harris started this art initiative in late 2019 to help enhance the art collection at Memorial. “In all honesty, the art collection here at Memorial has been outdated for some time.” John Harris states. Studies have shown that placing art in hospitals have helped improved patient wellbeing, decrease hospital stays, reduce anxiety, depression and pain. With such a large art community here in Las Cruces it only made sense to work together on this project.
With the help of key members of the Las Cruces Art Community Memorial Medical Center was able to put out a call of art seeking local artists to have an opportunity to have their work displayed throughout the hospital. “It is our hope to enhance the ambiance, sense of community and creative environment in Memorial Medical Center” Jack LeSage, member of the MMC Art Selection Committee states.
Reception with artwork selected for this initiative will be on display during Memorial’s 6th Annual Sweetheart Expo Sunday February 23 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm hosted at Memorial Medical Center West Annex lobby and conference room, public welcome. RSVP your spot today, call 800.424.DOCS (3627)
