Memorial Medical Center first in the state to implement AI-powered surgical video platform
June 08, 2026
Memorial Medical Center is proud to announce that it is the first hospital in New Mexico to implement Medtronic Touch Surgery, an artificial intelligence (AI) video platform that allows surgeons and clinicians to view robotic-assisted surgical cases safely and securely. This advanced technology unlocks the power of an additional tool to ensure excellence in patient safety, surgical outcomes and clinical consistency.
Touch Surgery significantly simplifies the process of recording, analyzing, and sharing surgical videos — providing robotically trained surgeons and surgical teams with a powerful new tool to improve performance and train others.
This video technology helps with:
- Enhanced training and skills development
- Error analysis
- Clinical practice, training and learning
“This technology elevates what we can accomplish in the OR and builds upon our already highly successfully robotic surgery program” said Melinda Alday-Florez, RN, BSN, Surgical Services Director at MMC. “This tool makes the time between cases an invaluable window for teaching, learning and reflection.”
With robotic surgery, benefits for patients can include smaller incisions, less pain, shorter hospital times and faster recovery times.
Importantly, the Touch platform enables automatic processing, segmenting and viewing of HIPAA-compliant surgical videos for clinicians and their teams without compromising sensitive patient data. In a usual hospital setting, surgical videos are often left unused due to the vast amounts of sensitive patient data they contain. With this advanced setup, built-in AI automatically anonymizes sensitive video frames in real-time.
These videos can then be accessed via mobile app or online shortly after the procedure to encourage self-reflection, peer review and improve preoperative preparation.
