September 25, 2020

What is your official title?
Physical therapist, Team Lead.
How long have you worked here at Memorial Medical Center?
10 years.
How did you come into this position?
I was hired as a new grad and have enjoyed working here ever since.
What was your motivation for a career in Healthcare?
I was motivated by the desire to see patients get better and educate them on ways to improve their general health and functional status.
What is a typical day like for you?
I initiate the day performing thorough chart reviews on my patients to ensure medical stability and appropriateness for treatment. Then I assist patients with strengthening, balance, endurance activities as well as teaching techniques to assist with functional mobility and regaining independence. I also coordinate with physicians and case managers for discharge planning. At end the day I complete the dreaded documentation that is nobody’s favorite thing to do.
How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?
As physical therapist we assist patients with a change in their premorbid levels to optimize functional status and assist with discharge recommendations.
In what areas do you help patients?
I help patients optimize their functional status by addressing deficits in cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, and neuromuscular systems as well as addressing cognitive and learning abilities. I also help patients with discharge planning needs to facilitate the safest environment possible upon discharge.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy gardening and yardwork, off-roading, and horseback activities, as well as the challenge of raising a teenager.
What is your favorite part about working for Memorial Medical Center?
My favorite thing about working at MMC is being able to work with such great staff members and work as a team to provide safe and quality patient care.
