What is your official title?
Hospital Security Officer, on paper- Public Safety Officer.
How long have you worked here at Memorial Medical Center?
I’ve been with Memorial Medical Center 18 yrs.
How did you come into this position?
At the time I was just looking for a job, but it didn’t take long to see what an incredible place this is to work.
What was your motivation for a career in Healthcare?
Other than employees, everyone that comes to our facility needs help. Other than medical emergencies my non-clinical supportive role is crucial so that our medical staff can continue their clinical duties. Everybody needs the hospital at some point. Knowing that I have a part behind the scenes in taking care of our community is my greatest motivation.
What is a typical day like for you?
People, people, people!I probably talk to 200 people a day. Our phones are constantly ringing, every corner I turn someone is needing some sort of assistance;access, clearance, escorts, reports, routine checks, out of routine checks, someone fell, someone needs a ride, this person is lost, we can’t find the family member. My typical day is all about the people.
How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?
I would describe my role’s responsibility supportive, but critical.
In what areas do you help patients?
I help and assist patient by getting them to where they need to be and securing their belongings. My department also transfers some of our cancer patients within the campus getting them to their scheduled treatments. I’ve sat with patients anywhere from 3 minutes to 3 hours just to make them feel safe and comfortable. Our patients are our priority no matter what role you have at MMC.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
Outside of work I’m all about my family and hanging out with them.
What is your favorite part about working for Memorial Medical Center?
I don’t have a top favorite part about working here but if I had to pick something it would be the people here.I have a lot of friends who work here at the hospital. MMC is like a little city, everything we need during our workday is here. This place does so much for us. Over my 18 years in working here I’ve learned that Memorial Medical Center is really the one that takes care of you.
