How did you come into this position?
I was hired fresh out of nursing school to the third floor where I started doing relief charge almost a year in and then full-time team lead after two years on the floor.
What was your motivation for a career in Healthcare?
I have always been interested in science and been good with people. Nursing seemed like the perfect marriage of those things.
What is a typical day like for you?
Since I work night shift, I get to work at 6:00pm, get briefed on the floor and make assignments. Then I brief the night shift staff, get reports on my patients, and start patient care. For the rest of the shifts I coordinate admits, serve as a resource, and assist other staff as needed until around 7:30am.
How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?
I am responsible for ensuring the shifts’ floors run as smoothly as possible for patients and staff, along with fulfilling my nursing duties to my own patients. I also am usually responsible for training new nurses and communicating with the management team.
In what areas do you help patients?
Medical Surgical floor
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I like to run, hike, travel, and ride my mountain bike.
What is your favorite part about working for Memorial Medical Center?
Getting to know my patients and giving patient care through nursing skills, being a source of education and helping them to feel more human during their admission.
