Beth Hendricks, Nurse Educator; LaunchPoint Nurse Residency Program Director
July 10, 2020
What is your official title?
Nurse Educator; LaunchPoint Nurse Residency Program Director
How long have you worked here at Memorial Medical Center?
Since November 2018.
How did you come into this position?
I moved from Canton, Ohio (just south of Cleveland) in January of 2018. I had just graduated that summer with my master’s in nursing education. I saw the MMC Nurse Educator position online and as soon as I met Ernest in HR I knew that I was into the culture and emotional IQ of MMC. Thus, I crossed my fingers and here we are a year and a half later.
What was your motivation for a career in Healthcare?
After 8 years as a Managing Hairstylist I started having dreams about going back to school. My initial semester focused on Social Service, but I quickly changed my major to Nursing after speaking with a guidance counselor who said my experience with people, interest in science and sense of rumor would make a great nurse. Unlike most nurses, I ‘tried” it. 14 years later I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
What is a typical day like for you?
Well, it is a COVID world, so every day is different. Right now, I am the coordinator of MMC’s initiative to treat COVID patients to aggressively AVOID the ventilator, a maneuver called proning. Times prior to the pandemic I facilitated MMC’s RN Residency, which is the program to seek out for any new graduate nurse wanting structure from Academia to practicing at the bedside. I am proud of the direction and growth that program has experienced and look forward to its future.
How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?
Education, facilitation, and a few jokes thrown in for good measure.
In what areas do you help patients?
Inpatient Floors, Step-down and COVID Unit
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I am a busy gal! Outside of work I teach Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) school in Advanced Med Surg and attend online classes toward my Post Masters certificate in an Adult Acute NP program. What little downtime I have, I enjoy dinner parties with friends as well as live music in town. As of lately my poodles are learning some cool tricks and my house is VERY clean. I think that is the new pandemic normal, no?
What is your favorite part about working for Memorial Medical Center?
First and foremost, my favorite part about working here at Memorial Medical Center would have to be the unique collaboration, teamwork, and family bond that the Education Department embodies. It took me 13 years of Nursing to find the perfect team and everyday I am filled with gratitude for being a part of it. Secondly, to be a transplant from the other side of the US and be embraced as a community member speaks volumes about Las Cruces and its people. Thirdly, NO SNOW.
