Memorial Medical Center Continues To Make Heart Care History With Pioneering Software

October 08, 2026

First in New Mexico, the El Paso region, and a gamechanger for cardiovascular intervention: Memorial Medical Center cardiologists are now using Abbott Ultreon 3.0, a pioneering AI imaging tool that helps physicians make more informed decisions when performing complex percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), a minimally invasive procedure to open clogged coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart.

Chief of Cardiology M. Rizwan Sardar, MD, FACC, FSCAI, and the MMC Cath Lab team recently performed their first case at Memorial using this cutting-edge software. This FDA-approved, AI-powered optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging platform brings high-resolution imaging and automated insights together, streamlining physician workflows and enabling fast, precise care.

“Over the recent years, we have seen huge strides in the development of AI technology, helping truly transform cardiac care for patients and improve efficiency. We’re extremely proud to be leading the way in this field right here in Southern New Mexico,” Dr. Sardar said. “This latest step forward enables us to further improve our decision making and selection of diseased arteries for stenting procedures."

As we reflect on this accomplishment, we remain dedicated to advancing cardiovascular care, ensuring that our community has access to the latest medical innovations. This milestone is not only a testament to the expertise of our healthcare professionals but also to the trust that our patients place in us for their heart health needs.
