Southern New Mexico is home to many treasures. From breathtaking sunsets to a rich and vibrant culture, our region offers countless reasons to be proud. However, our greatest treasure is our people. Every day, individuals dedicate their lives to serving others and strengthening our communities through compassion, generosity, and kindness.

The Karl Ngoye Community Impact Fund, held at the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, was created to celebrate those values and ensure they continue making a difference for generations to come. Inspired by Karl's lifelong commitment to caring for others, the fund invests in organizations and initiatives that are building a healthier, stronger, and more connected Southern New Mexico.

For Karl, community has always been at the center of everything he does. He believes that creating lasting change is not the responsibility of one organization or one individual, but it requires neighbors helping neighbors, communities investing in one another, and people choosing compassion every day. That belief is the foundation of both his life's work and the fund that now carries his vision forward.

Karl's passion for service began long before he entered the healthcare profession. Growing up, he watched his parents dedicate their time and energy to helping others through volunteerism. Their example taught him that generosity is not measured by wealth or status, but by a willingness to show up for people in need. Those lessons shaped a life centered on giving back.

Throughout his career, Karl has lived that philosophy in countless ways. As a Critical Care Unit Registered Nurse at Memorial Medical Center, he has cared for patients and families during some of life's most difficult moments. As a nursing instructor at Doña Ana Community College, he has helped prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals. As a certified fitness coach and wellness advocate, he has organized community health initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles for adults and children alike. He has also devoted his time to supporting children facing hardship, advocating for veterans, and creating opportunities for others to thrive.

His compassion has earned him numerous nursing excellence awards and the respect of colleagues, students, patients, and community members. Yet those who know Karl best say his greatest achievement has never been the recognition he has received, but the lives he has touched through quiet acts of service and genuine kindness.

Today, that spirit of service lives on through the Karl Ngoye Community Impact Fund.

The fund reflects the causes closest to Karl's heart, supporting organizations and initiatives that improve health and wellness, create opportunities for children and youth, assist veterans, and expand educational pathways for future nurses and healthcare professionals. Every contribution becomes an investment in people, strengthening the nonprofits and programs that help Southern New Mexico thrive.

Since its establishment in 2024, the Karl Ngoye Community Impact Fund has supported a wide range of initiatives that strengthen communities across Southern New Mexico. From providing school supplies through back-to-school campaigns to recognizing the dedication of nonprofit volunteers through Southern New Mexico Giving Day prize opportunities to supporting individuals in accessing support during their time of greatest hardship, the fund has consistently responded to community needs wherever they arise.

When devastating fires and floods struck Ruidoso and surrounding communities in 2024, the fund also played a role in emergency response efforts, providing critical assistance. Among those helped was a firefighter and his family, who received support for food and temporary shelter while serving on the front lines of the disaster.

More than financial support, the Karl Ngoye Community Impact Fund represents a lasting legacy. It ensures that the values Karl has lived throughout his life continue reaching people throughout the region. Every grant awarded, every student encouraged, every family supported, and every opportunity created extends that legacy into the future.

Karl often shares a lesson passed down by his mother, the person he considers his greatest inspiration.

"For you to be truly happy in life, you have to give back," Karl says. "Help others without any reason and give without the expectation of receiving anything in return."
