How long have you worked here at Memorial Medical Center?

Since Feb. 13, 2017; 3.5 years.

How did you come into this position?

In nursing school, I was always placed at Memorial for my clinicals. I appreciated the inclusiveness of the staff and a friendly work environment. When I graduated, I spoke with Ernest Perez inquiring about getting a nursing position. Next thing I knew, I was hired!

What was your motivation for a career in Healthcare?

I have always had an interest in helping others and while nursing is very physically, mentally and emotionally demanding, it comes with great rewards and a sense of fulfillment.

What is a typical day like for you?

Checking orders, passing meds, possible administration of chemotherapy infusion, answering call lights, assisting other nurses and PCTs, answering phone calls, assessing patients, making sure physiologic and emotional needs of my patients and staff are met, assigning patients to nurses, meetings with other staff. It is always very busy!

How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?

First and foremost, patient care. Making sure patients are getting the kind of care that I would want to receive if I were in their place. To achieve this, I make sure my nurses and PCTs are not overwhelmed and are able to perform their duties to the best of their abilities. If my nurses and PCTs are not comfortable, I am not doing my job correctly. If my patients are uncomfortable, I am not doing my job correctly. I advocate for patient and staff safety to create the best outcomes for all involved.

In what areas do you help patients?

I participate in direct patient care providing meds, assessments, wound care and other nursing duties. I advocate for patient needs and safety.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

I play and teach piano and guitar lessons and I love to read and spend time with my family and friends.

What is your favorite part about working for Memorial Medical Center?

It’s like working with family. I have grown to know my coworkers and learn about them and their lives and I love the connection we have. It allows for a cohesive team and cohesive care, which in turn satisfies patients and makes their stay that much better. Anything that improves patient outcomes is a positive for me.
