Heartburn affects about one-third of the population and is described as a burning pain or discomfort in the upper and midchest, possibly involving the neck and throat, that may worsen when lying down. Some common foods such as garlic, cookies, and orange juice stimulate increased stomach acid secretion setting the stage for heartburn. Proper diagnostic testing can help patients get the treatment that’s right for them. The Bravo™ Reflux Testing System used at Memorial Heartburn Center is the latest, least invasive and one of the most accurate tools for diagnosing heartburn. The Bravo Reflux Testing System uses a capsule placed on the wall of the esophagus (see diagram) to collect data for 96 hours. Patients are able to maintain their normal life while data is being collected. That data assists the physicians in determining the treatment plan. This technology enables Memorial Heartburn Center to deliver high quality patient care through a quick, definitive diagnosis for treating heartburn.
