Commitment to Quality

Memorial's Cancer Program is the only cancer program in Southern New Mexico that is Nationally Accredited by the Commission on Cancer (COC) through the American College of Surgeons (ACOS). Our facility works in conjunction with University of New Mexico Cancer Center to offer state-of-the-art care in Dona Ana County and surrounding regions; so patients can remain near home, friends, and family.

Our Cancer Program is the only cancer program in Southern New Mexico that provides both medical oncology and radiation oncology. Our medical oncology department, MMC Cancer Center, is part of a team that treats patients affected by a wide range of cancers and blood disorders. Our radiation department, Ikard Radiation Oncology, has been caring for individuals diagnosed with cancer for over a decade. Our radiation department was also awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology from the American College of Radiology (ACR) and The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), which allows for collaboration and peer review evaluation with board certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists in regard to treatment planning and patient safety.

Leading Cancer Treatments

Memorial's Cancer Program is home to medical oncologists and radiation oncologists who are at the forefront of cancer treatment with chemotherapeutic drugs, biological agents, and therapies that work with the patient's immune system. Our highly trained and specialized staff utilizes high-tech equipment including a TomoTherapy Hi-Art Treatment System with a Varian 21EX Linear Accelerator. Memorial offers the only TomoTherapy system in the Southern New Mexico and West Texas region.

Patients who are part of Memorial's Cancer Program benefit from an individualized treatment plan tailored to their specific condition. All regimens are reviewed by our Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist who also oversees the treatment planning and medication management.

Our innovative program also provides clinical trials in both departments, medical and radiation oncology, as an option for patients. Clinical Trial patients receive a high standard of care and are also part of a unique aspect of cancer research that is being transitioned into treatments for generations to come. Cancer-related clinical trials are available at Memorial with the oversight of the New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance (NMCCA) and the support of the University of New Mexico Cancer Center; a National Cancer Institute [NCI] designated Cancer Center.
