Memorial Heroes: Tenika Sosa-Gonzalez, BSN, RN, Director of Behavioral Healthcare Services
December 4, 2020
What is your official title?
Director of Behavioral Healthcare Services, but I’m always a nurse first.
How long have you worked here at Memorial Medical Center?
4.5 years
How did you come into this position?
I applied because I was curious. Long story short, it was Ronn Wilson’s idea. I came here with a plan to stay 18 months and I’m still here! I blame Ronn.
What was your motivation for a career in healthcare?
Being a nurse wasn’t in my life plan, but it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. What motivates me is feeling like I get to make a meaningful and mindful contribution in this community.
What is a typical day like for you?
There is no such thing as a typical day in behavioral health. That is what makes it fun.
How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?
The most important role I have is taking care of my team. Each of them brings something unique and awesome to this unit. It’s my job to help them make sure they have the tools they need to do their job and enjoy their work environment.
In what areas do you help patients?
I help patients by advocating for them and making sure they are partners in their care.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I like to cook, although I don’t care much for doing dishes. I like hanging out with my kids and husband. Right now, any time I have with them is really special.
What is your favorite part about working for Memorial Medical Center?
I love that I have the autonomy. I feel supported and trusted here. That makes it super easy to come to work every day. I get to work with the best team of people, doing the best work, in the best hospital.
