We are proud of the fact that Memorial has the most comprehensive cancer program in southern New Mexico, right here in Las Cruces. When faced with a cancer diagnosis, patients don’t have to leave home to receive the highest standard of cancer care. Memorial Cancer Center has provided care for more than 50,000 patients in our region for more than 20 years. We recently completed a year-long remodel and expansion with more than 25,000 square feet dedicated solely to cancer care.

National Hospital Week Celebrates Everyday Heroes

Each year, National Hospital Week provides an opportunity to recognize and thank the more than 5 million healthcare professionals who provide safe, high-quality healthcare in their communities. On May 6-12, Memorial Medical Center will join the American Hospital Association in celebrating these “Everyday Heroes” for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to excellence.

It is a source of great pride that LifePoint Health received the prestigious John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award this year for its National Quality Program. That puts LifePoint in the company of Harvard Medical School, Mayo Clinic, and American College of Surgeons, among others. LifePoint Health and Memorial’s healthcare team is committed to achieving the highest quality of care for our patients by partnering with our doctors and other professionals, as well as the Duke Health System.

Nutrition Month - Go Further with Food

“You are what you eat.” We’ve all heard it, and many of us have jokingly used the common saying amongst one another. But there really is a kernel of truth there. Eating healthy can help us be healthy. There’s never a bad time to talk about healthy eating, but March is an especially good opportunity because it’s National Nutrition Month® – a time to focus on making smart food choices, establishing healthy eating habits and ensuring that we are doing what we can to reduce food waste. Did you know that it’s estimated that an average 300 pounds of food per person is thrown away each year? This year’s theme from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is “Go Further with Food” – a reminder for all of us to get the most out of what we eat while wasting the least. Here are a few simple ways you can help make your food go further.

As one of the largest employers in Dona Ana County, Memorial is a major contributor to the economy of our community. In 2017, Memorial added 100 new jobs, bringing our employee census to more than 1,400. We donated to more than 35 local charities and events in 2017. In 2017, Memorial paid more than $5 million in local taxes and $4.6 million in charitable/indigent uncompensated care for those in our community. Memorial is invested in Southern New Mexico’s financial and physical well-being…our legacy for more than 65 years.

Protecting Yourself and Our Community from the Flu

Since flu season is in full swing, we want to help our community stay healthy and prevent the spread of this often debilitating illness. Your heart is one of the hardest working muscles you’ve got. It ticks around the clock to keep you alive and only gets a break when you’re relaxing or sleeping. With so much riding on this essential muscle, it’s important to treat it smart. According to the American Heart Association, one in four people die of heart disease every year. And it’s not playing favorites – heart disease is the number one killer of men and women. In fact, more women die of heart disease than from most cancers combined.
