Labor and Delivery
Memorial Medical Center has delivered more babies than any other hospital in Southern New Mexico.
MMC offers free birthing classes every month. The Great Beginnings Childbirth classes are offered to help new parents prepare for the new addition to their family. These classes are for first time mothers, parents with busy schedules, those who need a refresher course, want current educational materials or just want to find out more information about what happens during the Labor & Delivery process.
We invite you to select one class closest to your due date. These classes are free and open to the public, but you must register prior to attending a class. The class will familiarize you with the Labor & Delivery process at MMC and enhance your birth experience. If you are interested in more information or would like to register for a class please contact us at 521-2233
Families welcome their newest members within the supportive atmosphere of MMC’s labor and delivery unit where the goal is to help each mother and infant experience the most comfortable and healthful delivery possible. Fathers or other birthing partners are welcome.
Just in case a little extra help is needed, dedicated caesarean-section rooms are nearby, as is our Level II Neonatal Special Care Unit. MMC recently added Neonatology services, so we are able to keep some babies that need a higher level of care, instead of transfering them out of Las Cruces. We provide an experienced team, high tech equipment, and a caring staff for our smallest patients.
After the newborn's arrival, we provide post-partum rooms permit rooming in with baby and overnight accommodations for father or partner, helping to make the most of the first precious hours of the new arrival’s life. We also provide the “Hugs” infant safety system. Each family will take home a newborn photo provided by the Auxiliary, who also do free hearing tests, and a keepsake birth certificate with footprints.
