New Cancer Director
MMC WELCOMES NEW CANCER CENTER DIRECTOR
October 18, 2011 – Memorial Medical Center is pleased to announce that Lynn Arnold, RN, started as the new Cancer Center Director at the beginning of October. Arnold comes to MMC from Lovelace in Albuquerque and brings more than 30 years of Nursing Leadership experience.
“I am excited to work for this program,” Arnold said. MMC Cancer Center provides comprehensive cancer care that includes both Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. The Ikard Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology teams work together to provide high quality care and updated treatments with compassion. Through a partnership with University of New Mexico Cancer Center, MMC is able to offer treatment through national clinical trials. Patients are able to receive these cutting edge treatments without having to travel far from home.
“Our goal is to grow into a regional cancer center, and my role in that is to educate hospital staff, patients, and the community about our services. The most important thing is that a cancer patient can be treated locally, they do not have to travel and they can stay at home while receiving care.”
Arnold is a native Las Crucen. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New Mexico State University, and then earned her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix. Her first job was as a pediatric nurse at Memorial Medical Center. She then went to Texas Children’s Hospital and eventually to Lovelace in Albuquerque. At Lovelace, Arnold served as Director of Women and Children’s Services until she was promoted to Chief Nursing Officer in 2006.
Arnold is very involved in the nursing community. She recently won the Nursing Excellence Nurse Executive Leadership Award for the state of New Mexico. She is President-Elect of New Mexico Organization of Nurse Executives and a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and Pathway to Excellence Lead Reviewer. Arnold spent two years as Chair of the Nursing Excellence Awards, and is now part of the planning committee. She also serves on the New Mexico Hospital Association Board.
Arnold is happy to have moved home and loves being closer to family. Both of her children are currently students at New Mexico State University.
