MMC receives 3 year chest pain accreditation
September 12, 2012— Memorial Medical Center received full accreditation as a Chest Pain Center from the Society of Chest Pain Centers on August 22.
This accreditation means that MMC has demonstrated a high level of expertise in caring for patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack. Patients receive necessary treatment in the crucial 90 minute door-to-balloon time frame, reducing the chances of damage to the heart muscle.
“This accreditation means a lot for our community,” said Martha Hernandez, Chest Pain Coordinator. “By becoming an Accredited Chest Pain Center, MMC has confirmed quality care for patients with heart disease and has demonstrated its commitment to higher standards, including community education on Early Heart Attack Care (EHAC). Promoting EHAC to our community is a major measure that is necessary to increase public awareness on the importance of seeking timely medical care, thereby decreasing damage to the heart.”
To receive accreditation from Society of Chest Pain Center, MMC underwent an evaluation by the SCPC for its ability to assess, diagnose, and treat patients who may be having a heart attack and to integrate the most successful practices and newest technologies. This also includes being actively involved in community outreach programs that educate the public to rapidly seek medical attention if they feel they are experiencing symptoms of a heart attack.
In addition to becoming an Accredited Chest Pain Center, MMC has also received the Mission: Lifeline Bronze and Silver awards from the American Heart Association for their rapid response to heart attack care in the past two years.
